Responding to Food Insecurity in Daykundi: WOSDA’s Emergency Food Assistance Initiative
WOSDA is supporting vulnerable families in Daykundi Province through emergency food assistance, nutrition support, and community-based humanitarian response.
Afghanistan continues to face one of the most serious food security challenges in the region. Families across the country are struggling with limited income opportunities, climate-related shocks, displacement, poverty, and reduced access to essential services. These challenges have placed millions of people at risk of acute food insecurity, especially women, children, pregnant and breastfeeding mothers, and vulnerable households.
In response, WOSDA – Welfare Organization for Society and Development of Afghanistan is working to support vulnerable communities through emergency food assistance in Daykundi Province.
Supporting Vulnerable Families in Daykundi
Through this project, WOSDA aims to provide nutrition-sensitive and unconditional emergency food assistance to severely vulnerable and food-insecure households. The intervention focuses on helping families meet their basic food needs while preventing further deterioration of their food security and nutritional status.
The project will be implemented across nine districts of Daykundi Province, supporting families affected by poverty, seasonal hunger, natural disasters, and other humanitarian shocks.
Key Project Activities
WOSDA’s planned response includes:
- Seasonal food assistance for vulnerable households
- Hotspot response during periods of increased food insecurity
- Nutrition assistance for pregnant and breastfeeding women and children
- Contingency support for families affected by sudden shocks, displacement, or natural disasters
- Community-based beneficiary identification and verification
- Transparent and accountable distribution of assistance
The project is designed to support thousands of vulnerable households and provide nutrition assistance to pregnant and breastfeeding women and children under two years of age.
Community-Based and Accountable Assistance
WOSDA will work closely with communities, local stakeholders, and humanitarian partners to ensure that assistance reaches the most vulnerable families. Beneficiary selection will be carried out through community-based processes, with attention to fairness, inclusion, transparency, and accountability.
Special consideration will be given to households facing severe vulnerability, including families headed by women, people with disabilities, displaced families, and households with pregnant women, breastfeeding mothers, and young children.
Restoring Hope and Dignity
For WOSDA, humanitarian assistance is not only about providing food. It is about protecting dignity, reducing suffering, and helping communities remain resilient during difficult times.
Through this emergency response in Daykundi, WOSDA continues its commitment to supporting vulnerable people in Afghanistan and contributing to a future where families have access to food, dignity, and hope.
Together, we can fight hunger and support vulnerable communities in Afghanistan.
